Criminal minds why is prentiss back

Spencer Reid as Dr. Spencer Reid. Cook Jennifer Jareau as Jennifer Jareau. Timothy V. Murphy Ian Doyle as Ian Doyle. Conrad Bluth Declan as Declan.

Glenn Kershaw. Storyline Edit. It's been seven months since Prentiss' death, and three months since JJ returned to the unit to fill Prentiss' empty position.

Ever since Prentiss' death, Morgan had been working to find and capture Prentiss' murderer, Ian Doyle, first unsanctioned but then within the scope of the team but still without any government authority.

It is because of that unsanctioned nature that the team members individually are appearing at a senate committee hearing into the case, which led to the death of two agents. Morgan felt the best way to locate Doyle was to locate his son, Declan, who Prentiss spent the better part of her post-Interpol life protecting. Morgan did find Declan. But Declan went missing shortly thereafter.

The team didn't believe Doyle kidnapped Declan, but rather enemies of Doyle's did. Hotch decided that one person could have special insight into the case, and made a unilateral decision to bring her in much like the unilateral decision he made without the team's knowledge seven months earlier. Did you know Edit. She is very teary-eyed throughout the scene. Despite a huge amount of fan support and a season run, main characters came and went at an alarming rate on the CBS procedural. However, one of the most interesting cases of character transition is Paget Brewster's Emily Prentiss. Prentiss wasn't an original member of Criminal Minds ' Behavioral Analysis Unit, but instead debuted in the ninth episode of Season 2.

After a few years as a main character, Prentiss died, revived, left, visited, returned and eventually took over the team. The wild ride for Brewster and her character features personal choice, studio penny-pinching and a dose of misogyny. Emily Prentiss was a child of diplomats who grew up in cities across Europe and the Middle East, following the assignments of her mother, a U.

Because of her upbringing, Prentiss was fluent in multiple languages, including Arabic, Spanish, French, Russian and Greek, all of which play a role in various episodes as she translates for witnesses, suspects and the BAU. While Prentiss' backstory became a major plotline in later seasons, her personal life was left somewhat to speculation.

The character was initially written as lesbian , which both Brewster and the writing team were enthusiastic about before CBS required a heteronormative re-write. She also famously has a cat named Sergio. With Greenaway's departure, the BAU had no women field agents, and relied upon communications liaison Jennifer Jareau and technical analyst Penelope Garcia as the only female team members. Prentiss' arrival was a step in the right direction for women's representation on the team.

But Prentiss wasn't initially accepted by all team members. As a result, she had to prove her profiling competence and join on a probationary basis while slowly earning the trust of other BAU agents. First, she shared her recollection of the decision to take her and Cook off the show: "[Someone from] CBS had just called Ed Bernero [ Criminal Minds executive producer] and said, 'I want new women.

Brewster went on to criticize the network for trying to paint the decision as either financial or creative in nature. Instead, she posited that her firing was rooted in a culture of sexism: "I was so soured by the experience of being fired for no reason. Because it wasn't budget cuts.

The person they had hired to replace us got paid twice what we got paid! It's a network that's not particularly kind to women. That's why a lot of women leave those procedurals.

Or are fired. It's tough. The decision was difficult for Brewster, who said, "I was heartbroken. I was so happy there. I loved everyone there, and it was easily one of the most hurtful things that's ever happened, to be fired because they wanted 'new women. Apparently, she wasn't the only person devastated by the decision. She revealed, "Our showrunner quit after that, he was so pissed off.

He felt that he couldn't run his show after we were let go.
