Why do people not like tiesto

But when you do what you love, you never really get tired. Do you feel as though you have to be aware of current trends and scenes outside of dance music as well? Yeah, absolutely, but I still want to keep it all dance music. Calvin Harris is a great example of reinvention and staying on top — he did the album [ Funk Wav Bounce Vol. I ] and then came back with a Dua Lipa track which was straight-up dance music.

Dance music has always had these really good periods and then got stuck. I remember the progressive days with Sasha and those guys — everybody got stuck there and it was kind of boring, and then it came back up. Your live shows are pretty legendary, how do you keep things fresh for each set? I know what I can play, but I always feel the vibe of the crowd.

Dance music used to be a very male-dominated thing, I think because it was a technical which meant it was harder for women to get involved. Everything has changed. I just grew with everyone else, I guess.

When I started it was my hobby, and back then DJs were not taken seriously. I never even thought about playing outside of my hometown. To make it this far is beyond a dream come true. When you start playing in bars for 50 people, and then you're playing in front of , people at EDC in Las Vegas, it's pretty intense.

When they all screamed when I played the music, it gave me goosebumps. It was such a euphoric feeling. Why has the role of the DJ evolved so much since you started?

It's so reliable. Everybody can be a DJ. If you have rhythm and you like music, you can start. It's very accessible. The creative part is still very difficult but to actually get something going is pretty easy. It's a lot easier than to, say, play the guitar or the piano. What I learned is: enough is enough.

Sometimes you drink too much, you know the next day you're going to pay for it. So what makes someone a great DJ? A great DJ can adjust to a room. Every room is different. The timing of when you play which record is something you can't really learn. You either have it or you don't. And you have to get the crowd going with tracks they don't know. A lot of DJs, they go for the guaranteed-success big tracks, and that's what everyone plays. If you have a couple of tracks out there and you know the crowds have never heard before, and you can still get them to go crazy, then you're a really good DJ.

What about the lifestyle and managing the travel and partying? It's like with anything in life. If you can learn how to pace yourself, the lifestyle is not that hard. There's a lot of temptations out there. Sometimes you drink too much, you know the next day you're going to pay for it, so you try to hold back a little bit. It's very challenging in our world because there's always parties.
